Are you looking for the best RPGs to play on your PlayStation 4 in 2023? I’m here to help. The PS4 was a great console for RPG games, and there are still plenty of great titles to check out today. Here’s our list of the top 10 PS4 RPGs.
1. Rogue Galaxy
Rogue Galaxy is a Japanese action role-playing game developed by Level-5 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It was released in 2007 in Japan, 2008 in North America, 2009 in Europe, and 2010 in Australia.
Jaster Rogue lives on Byston Well, an uncharted planet that is home to a race of humanoids called “Grimalkin”. One day he finds a small spaceship named Raffia, which can take him to new worlds and adventures. On these planets, he meets many different characters who join his party as they travel through outer space.
2. Devil May Cry 4
Devil May Cry 4 is an action game that follows the story of Dante, an exiled demon hunter who is on a quest to kill his brother Vergil. The game’s story also features Nero, another character whose uncle has been murdered by demons.
Devil May Cry 4 has a unique art style and soundtrack that make it stand out from other games in its genre. It also has tons of replay value thanks to its multiple difficulty levels, multiple playable characters, and plenty of weapons for each one to use.
Overall, Devil May Cry 4 is a classic example of what makes action games so great: fast-paced combat with stylish moves that can be used in creative ways depending on how you want your character to fight.
3. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is a 2D side-scrolling RPG. It is a remake of the original Odin Sphere from 2007, which was released on the PlayStation 2. The game’s art style reimagines the characters and lands of the original in a beautiful new way:
This PlayStation 4 exclusive has been praised for its gorgeous visuals, as well as its gameplay mechanics. You can play through this title solo or with up to three other people online for some cooperative action!
4. Okami HD
Okami HD was one of the best games to come out on the PS4, and it’s still worth playing today. This Japanese-style RPG is set in ancient Japan, where you play as the sun goddess Amaterasu. After your village is attacked by a demon named Shiranui, you have to use your celestial brush powers to fight back against evil forces.
The game has a great art style that makes it feel like you’re playing an interactive painting, which fits well with its mythological Japanese setting. It also gives players access to dozens of different weapons for Amaterasu to wield throughout her journey—each of which has its own set of special attacks that can be used when fighting enemies or solving puzzles in the world around you.
5. Dark Cloud 2
Dark Cloud 2 is an action-adventure game developed by Level-5 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. It was released in 2001 in Japan and in 2002 in North America, though it wasn’t officially released by Sony until 2003. It’s a sequel to Dark Cloud, which was released on the PlayStation (PS1) earlier that same year.
The gameplay focuses on dungeon crawling, similar to games like Diablo or The Legend of Zelda. You explore dungeons filled with enemies, solve puzzles to find keys or other items that can help you progress further into the dungeon, collect loot from monsters you defeat along the way, and repeat those steps until you reach the end boss!
6. Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster
Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Final Fantasy X tells the story of Tidus, a star athlete in a fantasy world who finds himself transported to another realm called Spira after the destruction of his home city by a colossal menace known as Sin. After finding companionship with fellow refugees Yuna and Rikku, he embarks on a quest to find a way home while aiding Spira’s inhabitants in their battle against Sin.
Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster contains new features such as auto-save functionality and cross-save support between PS4 systems (and possibly other versions) that allows you to continue playing from where you left off regardless of which platform (PS3 or PS4) you’ve started playing on.
7. NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata is a third-person action role-playing game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4. It was released in Japan in February 2017, and worldwide the following month.
In NieR: Automata, players take control of combat android 2B as she traverses a war-torn world on a mission to destroy invaders known as “machine lifeforms”. The story explores the nature of humanity, existentialism, and individuality through the lens of machine sentience.
8. Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni 2: REVENANT KINGDOM is a great game that’s well worth your time, especially if you’re looking for an RPG for PS4. The sequel to Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, this game follows Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum (Evan), who has been reportedly killed in battle by a godlike being named Shadar. However, he was merely transported to another world called Ding Dong Dell where he embarks on an adventure to reclaim his throne and save his people from tyranny. While some may find the story formulaic or predictable, there are plenty of interesting characters and moments throughout this journey.
The combat system alone makes Ni No Kuni 2 worth checking out since it’s so fun and engaging, but there are also a few other things that make this game great:
9. Resident Evil 4 HD
Resident Evil 4: HD is a great game. It has a great story and combat system, as well as some of the best graphics you can find on the PS4. This game is also fairly easy to play, so it’s recommended for beginners who haven’t played many RPG games yet but still want something challenging.
10. Demon’s Souls Remastered
Demon’s Souls is a 3D action RPG that focuses on intense combat and challenging boss battles. Set in the fictional kingdom of Boletaria, you take control of one of six character classes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. What makes this game stand out from others that are similar is its unique online multiplayer system: rather than having players connected to each other through voice chat or text chat like most games do, Demon’s Souls uses a system where all players are connected to each other via bloodstains (which appear after you die) that allow them to see where someone died and how many enemies they had killed before dying. This unique feature allows for some truly amazing moments when players come together for an epic battle against a tough boss monster!
There are a ton of great PlayStation RPG games out there and we hope you find your next favorite in this list.
