The Best PC Games (2022)

These games are the best because they have fun gameplay, interesting characters and stories, and good replay value. The types of games they are include simulation, role-playing games (RPGs), and platforming. You will enjoy them if you like to explore fictional worlds and/or play as a character with magical powers who saves the world from evil forces. You will get a satisfying experience if you put in some time and effort to learn how to play each game.

You should play these games because they are engaging, believable, socially conscious, and full of adventure. To get started playing these games right away all you have to do is get your computer or borrow one from someone else. You’ll need either an Apple Mac computer or a Windows PC that’s fast enough to handle the requirements of each game (see below).

Elder Scrolls 6

We don’t know much about Elder Scrolls 6 yet. No release date has been announced, and with Bethesda also working on Starfield—a sci-fi RPG set in space—it’s unclear when it’ll be released.

From a minute-long teaser trailer shown at E3 2018, we can deduce that the game is set in the High Rock and Hammerfell provinces of Tamriel, meaning you’ll probably visit cities like Rihad and Taneth. We also know that it uses Bethesda’s new RE Engine, which worked wonders on Doom Eternal.

Half-Life: Alyx

You’ll take on this action-packed adventure by stepping into the virtual shoes of Alyx Vance, a character you may already know from Half-Life 2. The game is set before the events of that game and will also require you to use a VR headset. You’ll be able to search for clues, pick up tools, and unravel mysteries as you make your way through a harrowing world filled with sinister G-Men and other enemies.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is set in Night City, a sprawling metropolis in California where crime and poverty are rampant. The player will take the role of V, a mercenary who uses cybernetic implants to enhance their abilities. V can be customized by the player with one of three character classes, each with unique skill sets and playstyles. The gameplay will involve completing missions for characters around Night City, similar to the open-world gameplay of Grand Theft Auto V.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on November 19, 2022, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler set in the Minecraft universe, coming to PC and console in spring 2020. The game is cross-platform and allows up to four players to fight together as they venture through procedurally generated levels of swamps, caves, deserts, and more. You’ll take on spider hordes, zombies, Illagers, and other mobs while collecting equipment and weapons you can use against your enemies. There are no classes in this game—you can mix and match armor, weapons, and items you find on your journey. The game is set in the Overworld.

Baldur’s Gate 3

In 2022, you’ll be able to take that gameplay D&D 5e experience online with the latest Baldur’s Gate 3, which promises to deliver all of the beloved gameplay of the original Baldur’s Gate and add in even more of it. Along with that, you can play alongside your fellow adventurers using a companion app to battle monsters, complete quests, and do pretty much whatever you want. Of course, it’ll also be possible to just play through the story without ever interacting with another player. At least if you don’t mind being alone for all those hours as you work on your quests and story arc.

Starfield

What makes Starfield stand out (and what made it a top-rated game in 2022) is the fact that it allows for complete customization of your player’s ship. This, paired with its open-world environment, means you can choose to explore in whatever way suits your play style. Do you want to be a space pirate and raid other ships? You can do that. Want to be a trader who ferries goods around the galaxy? That’s also an option. Prefer to take on different missions as you help various aliens across the universe? You got it!

Vampire The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, you get to play as a range of different vampire clans in the World of Darkness universe. As a vampire, you’ll be able to traverse the city of Seattle as if it were your playground, feeding on humans and exploring its seedy underbelly.

You can even turn humans into vampires themselves, making them into your minions who live to serve you. You’ll also be able to use your vampiric powers in combat, such as being able to feed on enemies in battle.

It also encourages multiple playthroughs with its three branching paths that let you choose between playing as an evil vampire or a good vampire.

System Shock Remake

You’ll be able to hack your way to survival in Nightdive Studios’ System Shock remake. If you came of age playing the original 1994 title, this modernized take on the cult classic tells a similar story: You’re a hacker who’s been captured by the nefarious artificial intelligence SHODAN and must fight your way out of a doomed space station. It looks all but identical to its predecessor, which is great news if you’re nostalgic for ’90s-era first-person shooters as well as games that were more RPG than a shooter. The game features real-time combat (of both the melee and ranged variety), limited inventories (that can be expanded with upgrades), immersive environments, and what we hope will be an exciting tale of AI gone wrong.

It’s not yet clear how many hours of gameplay System Shock Remake will offer or when it’ll launch during 2022, but whatever that timeframe may be, we think it could make for one heckuva throwback experience.

Layers of Fear 2

Layers of Fear 2 is the second game in the Layers of Fear series, and it’s coming out on February 28, 2022. The game will be available for $30 on PC through GOG or Steam, as well as PS4 and Xbox One. It was created by Bloober Team, a Polish developer that also made Observer, >observer_, and Blair Witch.

The first Layers of Fear was released in 2016 and is still a great example of how horror games can use design to spook players instead of relying on cheap jump scares alone. Its sequel looks to dive even deeper into psychological horror with an intriguing new premise: you play a Hollywood actor who finds himself trapped aboard an abandoned ocean liner. As you travel across the ship and confront its terrifying secrets, your character will face his demons—both figuratively and literally.
