There are a few different ways you can connect your gaming headset to your PC or console. If you want a completely wireless setup that won’t tie up your USB ports, then a Bluetooth gaming headset is what you’re looking for. Most wireless headsets connect via Bluetooth, but not all Bluetooth headsets are wireless gaming headsets—be sure to check the specifications if you’re unsure.
Opt for a pair with dedicated dongles or receivers and RF (radio frequency) connectivity if you want the most advanced wireless technology and the best sound quality possible. This pairing method uses radio waves rather than infrared like standard Bluetooth and is less likely to encounter interference from other devices in range.
SteelSeries Arctis 1
The SteelSeries Arctis 1 is the best wireless gaming headset for most people because it sounds good, is comfortable, and has a clear microphone, all for an affordable price. It’s also compatible with almost everything. If you want to use the same headset for your Nintendo Switch as well as your PC or mobile device, the Arctis 1 works with all of those systems—and it comes with a detachable USB-C dongle that will connect to your Switch via its dock. Suppose you care about style more than affordability. In that case, we recommend the Astro Gaming A50 Gen 4 Wireless—it’s one of the most comfortable headsets we’ve tested, but it costs around $300 and requires a base station that plugs into your router to charge its battery when not in use. The Xbox Series X controllers have Bluetooth support that allows you to pair a set of true wireless headphones without an adapter. However, these headphones don’t offer nearly as much value as our main pick does when it comes to sound quality and durability.
Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2
Turtle Beach’s Stealth 600 Gen 2 headset is one of the best gaming headsets for gamers who want to spend around $100 on a comfortable wireless set of cans and don’t have their heart set on RGB lighting or 7.1 audio. They’re comfortable enough to wear for hours at a stretch, the battery life is solid (15 hours), and the mic sounds decent and retracts when you don’t need it. It doesn’t sound as good as more expensive models (like the Astro A50), but it has a few missing features from some higher-end models, like volume control and chat mix dials mounted directly on the ear cups. This makes it easy to adjust your audio mix without having to dig into settings menus. The Stealth 600 Gen 2 also works with PC wirelessly via a USB dongle, which can easily be plugged into an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 controller if you’re playing on a console.
Razer BlackShark V2
With a starting price of $170 / £200 / AU$350, this gaming headset is already more expensive than most wired models. But despite the higher cost, the Razer BlackShark V2 delivers great sound and mic quality and is plenty comfortable to wear.
True 7.1 surround sound isn’t available (only simulated surround), but we still enjoyed these headphones’ spatial audio while playing games like Doom Eternal or Valorant. The mic sounds good and can be used for online calls or streaming sessions.
The BlackShark V2’s combination of leather and memory foam makes for a very comfortable fit that should be easy to wear without feeling any discomfort. However, if you’re planning on wearing glasses with them, you might find that they can get a little warm after a while.
Plus, with up to 20 hours of battery life, you’ll have plenty of time to game without worrying about charging your headset in between marathon sessions.
Corsair HS70 Pro Wireless
You’ll also have access to plenty of features via Corsair’s iCUE software, including surround sound (virtual 7.1), an equalizer, and bass boost, as well as the option to save up to three EQs presets. The headset is also compatible with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, so Xbox One owners can use it wirelessly on their PC in addition to their console.
The headset is excellent value for money—it’s fairly cheap, but there are plenty of high-end gaming headsets that cost more but don’t offer as many features.
Steelseries Arctis 7P
The Steelseries Arctis 7P is a good-looking, affordable gaming headset that sounds great and feels comfortable. The Arctis 7P is designed for the PlayStation 5 and works with the DualSense controller’s built-in audio jack. With up to 20 hours of battery life, you can tackle long gaming sessions, and if the battery dies, you can plug in the included USB-C charging cable while you continue to play on PS5.
As long as you don’t mind using cables sometimes, the Arctis 7P is a great option if you want a wireless gaming headset that will work with your PS5 but won’t break the bank.
Razer Nari Ultimate
Let’s get this straight: If you’re looking for the best sound quality in a gaming headset and want full immersion in both games and movies, then the Razer Nari Ultimate is your best bet. You don’t get THX Spatial Audio support from every game out there, but it’ll blow you away when you do use it. This headset has 8 different drivers to process audio that’s sent through its USB connection. Most headsets have just 2 drivers (one for each ear) to put that into perspective.
That said, we have some issues with these headsets. For one thing, they’re kind of expensive at $200/£200/AU$350/AED 750. However, if you’re willing to spend that much on a gaming headset and especially if you want extra features like THX Spatial Audio support or haptic feedback – which is cool, by the way – then the Nari Ultimate is a very good wireless choice.
